Hi there, and welcome! My name is Lara, and together with my husband Chris, we are the hearts behind Happily Ever After Mini Doxies. We are proud parents to three wonderful children who absolutely adore our miniature longhaired dachshunds. Our journey into this breed began with a simple wish: finding a small companion dog that would beautifully complement our lifestyle, especially alongside our beloved bunnies. After pouring countless hours into research and learning about the Kaninchen which is lovingly known as the “Rabbit-sized” Miniature Dachshund, Chris surprised me on my birthday with our precious Lizzie. She became not only a treasured family member, but also the foundation of our breeding program. Our puppies are lovingly hand-raised in our home, surrounded by daily family life and gently socialized with our children. We believe this early connection helps nurture confident, affectionate, and well-adjusted companions. At Happily Ever After Mini Doxies, our program is built on a strong commitment to health, temperament, and structure. We proudly focus on a chocolate & tan longhair based program, pairing beauty with soundness and sweet, loving personalities. We are located in Robesonia, Pennsylvania, not far From New York, New Jersey, and Maryland. We coordinate with experienced ground transporters and professional flight nannies for safe nationwide delivery.

The Dapple gene is dominant. It’s letter is M.
One Parent MUST be a Dapple in order to produce a Dapple.
Non Dapples are mm.
If the Dog has two copies of the Merle gene this is mm and can have MAJOR health issues. This is called a Double Dapple and can be deaf, blind, or born with no eyes.

All Dachshunds are one of the basic coat colors.
Red
Cream
Black and Tan
Chocolate and Tan
Blue and Tan
Isabella and Tan
Piebald!
Piebald is a recessive gene.
Piebald Dogs are spsp.
Piebalds can have Tickling or Roaning!
Black and Tan Dogs are BB
Black and Tan Dogs carrying Chocolate are Bb
Chocolate and Tan Dogs are bb
Red is considered a dominant color! One gene will make the Dog Red. Red gene is Ay.
Ay At is a Red that carries Tan.
At At will result in a Dog with Tan Points.
Em Em is black masked.
Cream is a recessive gene.
Most Dachshunds are Cch Cch meaning they are not cream or cream carriers.
Black and Cream is AtAt BB or AtAtBb + cchcch.
Chocolate and Cream is AtAtbb + cchcch.
Blue and Tan is AtAtdd. – Blue should be avoided due to CDA – Color Dilution Alopecia and there is not a way to test for this so the Color cannot at the moment be considered an Ethical color to produce.
Isabella and Tan is AtAtddbb. – Isabella should be avoided due to CDA – Color Dilution Alopecia and there is not a way to test for this so the Color cannot at the moment be considered an Ethical color to produce.
Brindle is a dominant gene.
Like Dapple one parent must be Brindle to produce a brindle.
Brindle is Kbr – a Dog can have two copies KbrKbr and will always produce a Brindle Puppy.
Sable is dominant. One parent must be a Sable in order to produce a Sable Puppy.
